Newlyweds relocating from Brooklyn sought to harmonize their organic-modern aesthetic with the traditional architecture of their historic Colonial Revival home.

With a clearly defined budget and a lot of ground to cover, we focused on high-impact finishes and a rich color palette to achieve a that stayed true the home’s character, as well as the homeowner’s aesthetic.

The dining room in this house has a small footprint but held so much potential. The wallpaper was inspired by the lush greenery surrounding this home, and is perfectly accented by the pre-existing chair rail and gorgeous dentil crown moulding. Because the room is a perfect square, we brought in soft and rounded pieces to balance all the corners.

The living room had quite a challenge, there were two entrances on the wall where the sofa needed to go. And it needed to be a large sofa, since this room is where guests are entertained, as well as where the family curls up to watch tv. We closed off one of the entrances which allowed for a large sectional, and now this is the perfect gathering spot. We clad the fireplace with fluted calacatta viola marble that feels like it’s always been there.

Just off the living room is everyone’s favorite space in the house (including Sparrow the cat). This sun room is small but mighty, the wall to wall windows fill the room with sunlight all day long, and we brought a bit of the outside in with vintage botanical print wallpaper. This room is made for cozy mornings with a cup of coffee and a good book.

The foyer got a complete facelift with just a little paint and some accessories. While we refinished the wood flooring throughout the first floor, we didn’t have the budget to replace the tile in this space. Instead we added interest with a two tone wall, and layered in some rugs. Finally, a custom bench cushion inspired by Sparrow gives you a place to kick off your shoes.

Finally, the primary bedroom was generously sized but presented the couple with a challenge: where to place the bed with the off center windows. Instead of fighting the asymmetry, we leaned into it, with mixed lighting, and a large suzani tapestry to balance the weight of the adjacent window. To make this room feel like a serene escape, we kept the color palette neutral and leaned into texture, complete with a lime wash finish.
